Sorry for the pile on GirlySports, but I also just really feel a need to say that it makes absolutely no sense to think that it's ever "better" that a presidential candidate is making a fool of himself.

Sure, it's good in the sense that voters get to see that he's acting crazy, but in normal circumstances that just shouldn't be the bar. The normal expectation for a predidential candidate should be as close as possible to zero amount of crazy.

I don't really understand why conservatives these days have no quality standards for their candidates. They don't need to be qualified, they don't need to have a real track record of anything, they just need to repeat the right talking points.

Why is it okay now that Republicans don't make any sense?

For example, having just listened to Trumps "economic" speech in Carolina, it was just really odd to listen to him try to appeal to people who sympathize with Joe Biden, and go on and on about how Joe was treated unfairly when he was pushed out of his candidacy, and then go on extended rambles about how completely horrible Joe Biden was and is in every possible way... and then go on to say that Kamala Harris is a horrible radical who's beyond anyone else in the Democrats and then say she's basically exactly the same as Joe Biden... And the go on to once again say that Harris stole all his policies from the Trump campaign. Oh, and he's also saying that she has no policies.

So Harris according to Trump is a radical leftist who steals all her economic policies that do not exist from the ultraconservatives while being exactly the same as one of the countries more famous centrists. Those are all understandable lines of attack, they just don't make any sense when you listen to them back to back to back.

Trump is in his own way a pretty good speaker, massively better than he was in 2016. Sure he has his weird moments. You can still really notice that he's been doing his campaign speeches nonstop for years now. I often noticed myself going along with whatever emotions he's trying to stir, and that's an impressive skill because I hate the guy. You are very likely to feel worse about the Democrats and Harris after listening to Trump.

However, he mostly does this by completely abandoning even the possibility of being in any way coherent. In the policy stuff, it sounds like he's was given multiple possible strategies to attack Harris by his campaign staff, and instead of picking one Trump's just going with all of them.

He's literally simultaneously saying that Harris has the worst economic policies ever, and that she stole all of them from him. Those just obviously aren't compatible lines of attack.

It's all vibes with nothing inside. Same as his "policy talk", which is 100% of him saying things like "young people will be able to buy houses again", without ever saying how. What's his plan to make that happen? He obviously doesn't have one.

(He also occasionally has these moments where you notice him reading from a prompter much more than you would think. It's weird because he can for example accidentally say "thank you" before the audience actually cheered. It's like a sudden peek behind the curtains.)
