I'd just argue that all three of them were unnecessary. The Oilers are likely better off with 2/3 of Arvidsson, Henrique, and Skinner, and with both Broberg and Holloway locked up for $3M combined.
Especially from an asset management perspective in the longer term.

Yeah, that's a fair point. Of course NOW $3 million seems like a bargain for both Holloway and Broberg.

I mean $1.2 for Holloway is just a touch over market value anyway. Broberg definitely hasn't earned a $1.8 contract yet though.
I suppose the Oilers didn't see the risk as being as high as it ended up being.
Last offer sheet was years ago, and neither player has really proven anything at the NHL level. I certainly was on the side of the fence that an offer sheet to either player was pretty unlikely to happen.
You still have guys like Robertson and Harley sitting around without contracts on teams that could be put over the cap with an offer sheet, and those players have better NHL track records.
