Discounts just don't happen, its rare and usually when a player is like 35 plus not in their prime earning years.
Toews and Kane didn't take discounts. MacKinnon didn't take a discount. Tavares got 11 million to play for his childhood team. Kopitar didn't take a discount. Doughty didn't take a discount. Mark Stone went to his destination team and signed a massive contract right away as a winger.
They are nuts.

You can say they didn't take discounts, but if they had gone to market, they would have gotten more for the most part. Tavares was actually offered more by SJ.
