I mean...not really. They've had a foundation laying 'generation'.
Xbox had a terrible Xbox One generation, and Sony destroyed them and have rode that momentum to new heights this gen.
I think largely though, this generation is a joke as far as gamers are concerned and has brought about the end of console 'generations'. Look around at generational exclusives...there's not much. Sony has Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank, and uh...Returnal?
This whole generation is effectively a .5 hardware iteration - the PS4 Super Pro. What Microsoft has been doing this generation is focusing on the fact that these generation cycles are caput, and also playing catch up on the whole 'acquiring studios' side of things that Sony did at a pretty steady pace last gen while Microsoft sat idly by.
It's about services, and getting your games (where the money is made) into as many hands as possible. Sony is attempting to do this as well, but it's been a slower pace.
