I am kind of surprised Broberg was valued that highly around the league that a team wanted to throw that kind of money at him. The Holloway contract is only a little high in comparison. Next year when he has arb rights, the Oilers would probably have been looking at paying him $2+ million cap hit with arbitration looming anyway.
$4.5 for Broberg seems pretty far out of line. He was playing 3rd paring minutes in the playoffs and his underlying numbers weren't great. He shot 33% in the playoffs. Might have been a little lucky on his scoring numbers there. He hasn't been really developing much season over season either. Pretty even chance he's never worth $4.5 million.
I guess there is a chance that the Oilers trade Ceci/Kulak and LTIR Kane to keep both Holloway and Broberg, but the prudent move would be to match Holloway, let Broberg go for a second and use that pick as part of a package to bring in another top 4 guy at the deadline.

Henrique, Skinner and arvidsson aren't substantially better than anyone. They're aging players who lost their roles to better, healthier and younger players on bad teams and found their last roles on a team with a void in top 6 wingers.
That being said, you're right that the only 2 Oiler prospects to establish themselves on the team the last couple years are straight trash and aren't worth the money. Best case scenario is you let them both go as they weren't set to make much of an impact.
