you can stay past 48 hrs but all has to be on your own dime (housing, food, equipment etc) and cannot play in Exhibition game even 1 and you are ineligible.
The 48hrs the NCAA considers the same as an Official NCAA "Visit" in which team can wine, dine, give them swag etc
