And it's not entirely the same since it is a lot more subjective. There is far more nuance with a mental health issue than most physical injuries.

From the Flames perspective it would make sense that they are taking on a lot more risk with him either not being able to get back to speed after all the time off or him needing additional time off again for similar reasons. If a player was coming off a major physical injury teams would likely hedge against both of these things.

If the Washington deal really was out there and then fell apart because of Chychrun its interesting that the talks between Calgary and Kylington closed so quickly since that trade happened on July 1st I believe. Maybe the Flames didn't see losing Kylington as that big of a loss.
You're absolutely right, but I think both parties need to acknowledge that. Kylington cant expect a team to take a huge risk on him, and he shouldnt be asking them to. Dip a toe into that water first.

Because with a conventional injury, the healing time and process and fallout are more well documented and that risk can be mitigated and accounted for somewhat.

Mental Health? Thats a crap-shoot. That is a roll of the dice. Both sides have to be cognizant of that.

And who knows, maybe a change of scenery is all it is. I'm no Mental Health expert, some people like to be somewhere comfortable and familiar and some people need to get away from 'the scene of the incident.'

Who knows which he is?

Agreed.

Much. Less. Risk.
