However...
6 weeks in, Job 2 made me an offer.
Also great coworkers, lighter workload, more focused caseload, better pay, better benefits, better pension.
The nature of Job 1, I can't negotiate compensation (unionized government).
So, while I feel like utter s*** doing it, I'm resigning Job 1 and going with Job 2. All in all, it's the people that make me want to stay at Job 1, but Job 2 is a far better long term for me and the family.
Thanks for all the advice and support.
I'm used to finding a job by recognizing a need in a company, then going to the company saying "hey, I can help" then getting hired. This might be the first time I've ever won a competition, let alone two at once. It's a nice shot in the arm.

I had a friend that worked for the government for like 9 months and then moved back to the private sector. From what i understand, there were no hard feelings from the government sector side. They implicitly know that there is always a pool of candidates that they'll be able to hire from. The draw of the pension is huge. Therefore you have to take care of you and your family first. If the second job works t in those respects, then definitely go for it.
Congrats on the new gig and all the best for the future!
