Hearing it involves his parents definitely adds a little more to the backstory.
“ The story behind Oliver Kylington’s year-and-a-half battle back to the NHL is one of trauma and betrayal.”

I personally don’t mind if we never hear the full story about his trauma or about the contract negotiations. I think virtually nobody here has enough information to make the strong negative judgements on the situation that have been rampant around here.
My thought since free agency is that there is a strong possibility that he was seeking a multiyear deal, even just two years, for the sake of stability and his mental health. I think it’s overly presumptuous for so many people to assume greed was the main driver.
Despite a multi-year contract not panning out for him, maybe there were some possibilities and it can be hard to know for sure without shopping sometimes. Despite it leading to a painful departure from the Flames, it still may have been the right move to try, especially seeing as he didn’t end up as a PTO or on a garbage team.
I’m happy that he has this new opportunity and it’s great that both sides are excited about it. I hope he has a great season in Colorado and wish him all the best going forward in his career and life.
