If it's installed properly it should be fine. I stuck an unpainted chunk in a bucket for 5 months and it barely swelled. It is the same as all the trim that gets used on most houses(but I see many poor installations of even that when I look). They do have restrictions on installation, like keeping it above the ground a bit and rooflines need flashing and spacing. Nothing I ran into was an issue. I primed and painted all my cut ends on the garage. When I did my house they have a new product, the pro line that has lapping on the ends, so it's even better to install and goes up quick.
I do know they had a lot of failures in the 90's that gave it a bad name, but all those issues should be resolved.
