Music is crucial in film and TV, with its ability to evoke powerful emotions and nostalgia. The use of well-known songs--even annoying and cloy pop songs, especially when slowed down--creates a poignant atmosphere and can even enhance the storytelling.
This isn't just for the tik tok generation; it's a deliberate artistic choice that taps into our collective cultural memory. You see it in commercials all the time, using music to evoke specific emotions and memories deliberately chosen from and/or targeted towards a specific generation.
While the cameos add to the hype, the soundtrack is essential in creating a more immersive and resonant experience. Music in film and marketing makes the product more appealing and unforgettable.

I agree with you if used sparingly to give a scene a little extra importance or fun a needle drop can be very effective . Think about Goodfellas with And then he kissed me or Wayne's World Bohemian Rhapsody (our entire generation first heard that song from that movie and fell in love with it). Both took iconic songs and did something creative with them. Now whenever I hear either song I recall those movies and scenes. With DP3 there were so many I already forget most of the songs, it just came across as generic. You could literally re arrange the songs and put them in different fight scenes and my enjoyment of the scene wouldn't change.
