Default Day 1 - July 27

Very busy day so I know that I missed a few things but I’m sure everyone is excited to have the games back! Like every Olympics it is super challenging to determine which events will be on which channel but remember that everything is available to stream on the CBC Sports website or CBC Gem.

Day 1 starts at 00:30 with the Group Stages beginning in Mixed Doubles and Women’s Singles Badminton.

At 01:00 Spain plays Slovenia in Men’s Handball and Japan faces Germany in Men’s Volleyball (this should be on CBC). Also, at this time the heats for Men’s Single Sculls Rowing will start as well as the qualification in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Team.

At 01:20 the Group Stage in Badminton Men’s Doubles starts with 2023 Pan Am Games Gold Medalists Adam Dong and Nyl Yakura facing a team from China.

The Equestrian Eventing starts at 01:30, Jessica Phoenix, Karl Slezak, and Michael Winter are the Canadians competing.

Women’s Individual Epee starts at 02:00. Canadian 16-year-old Ruien (Angel) Xiao who won a Bronze at the 2023 Pan Am Games will compete at 04:05. Also, at 02:00 Great Britain faces Spain in Field Hockey and the Men’s 60kg and Women’s 48kg Judo will be starting.

Women’s Doubles Badminton starts at 02:10. At 02:12 the Women’s Single Sculls Rowing heats begin.

At 02:25 the Men’s Individual Sabre Fencing starts. Francois Cauchon, Fares Arfa, and Shaul Gordon are the Canadians in this event.

Men’s 10m Air Pistol Qualification starts at 02:30. Calgarian Michele Esercitato is the Canadian competitor. Also, at 02:30 the Medal matches in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Team event will take place along with Belgium vs Ireland in Field Hockey.

Lots starting at 03:00 including the Group Stage for Men’s Singles Badminton as well as the start of the Men’s Basketball tournament with Australia vs. Spain (I believe this will be on TSN 4). The Women’s 3m Springboard Synchro Diving Final will also be starting at 03:00 along with Hungary vs Egypt in Men’s Handball.

For Canadian 03:00 content we have Subdivision 1 of the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Qualification starting with Felix Dolci, Rene Cournoyer, William Emard, and Samuel Zakutney are the Canadians in this event and I think this will be shown live on Sportsnet.

Swimming starts at 03:00 on CBC with the Heats for the Women’s 100m Butterfly, Defending Gold Medalist Maggie MacNeil is in Heat 3. Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith who just graduated from UofC with a nursing degree is in Heat 4. At 03:12 the Women’s 400m Freestyle Heats start, 17-year-old Summer McIntosh who finished 4th in this event in Tokyo is in Heat 2. The Men’s 100m Breaststroke heats begin at 03:30 and the Men’s 400m Freestyle Heats will be at 03:45.

Men’s Double Sculls rowing starts at 03:30 and the Women’s Double Sculls begin at 04:00.

At 04:00 the Preliminary Round begins for the Men’s Street Skateboarding. Matt Berger, Ryan Decenzo, and Cordano Russell are the Canadian competitors.

The Tennis Tournament begins at 04:00, Leylah Fernandez is first on Court 9 at Rolland Garros while Bianca Andreescu is second on that same court, Fernandez/Dabrowski will be up 4th on that same court competing in Women’s Doubles. FAA will be up 2nd on Court 14. (I’m pretty sure the women’s singles matches will be on TSN4)

At 04:15 on CBC the heats for the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay begin, Canada will be in Heat 2. The Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay heats start at 04:26, Canada will be in Heat 2.

At 04:30 Men’s Quadruple Sculls begin; the Women’s will begin at 04:50. Men’s Field Hockey continues at 04:45 with Netherlands vs South Africa.

Men’s Volleyball at 05:00 with Italy vs Brazil which I think will be on Sportsnet. Men’s Basketball should be on TSN4 at 05:30 with Germany vs Japan.

The Preliminary Round in Men’s Beach Volleyball starts at 06:00. Also at 06:00 there’s Croatia vs Japan in Handball and Netherlands vs Hungary in Women’s Water Polo.

The Women’s Individual Time Trial Road Cycling starts at 06:30, I believe this will be shown on CBC. Olivia Baril is the Canadian competitor.

At 07:00 the Men’s C1 Canoe Slalom heats begin, Alex Baldoni is the Canadian competitor. Also at 07:00 is Argentina vs Iraq and Dominican Republic vs Spain in Men’s Soccer, and the beginning of the Men’s and Women’s Singles Table Tennis.

At 07:30 the Women’s 54kg Boxing begins along with Subdivision 2 of the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics. Also at 07:30 South Africa faces France in the first Semifinal of the Men’s Rugby, Fiji vs Australia is the second Semifinal at 08:16, the Final should be on CBC and will start at 11:45, the semis I believe will be on TSN4.

At 08:00 the Women’s K1 Slalom starts, Lois Betteridge is the Canadian in this event. Men’s Cycling Time Trial starts at 08:32, Derek Gee is the Canadian athlete.

09:00 has the Gold Medal match in Women’s 48kg Judo as well as Ukraine vs Morocco and Uzbekistan vs Egypt in Men’s Football, and Germany vs France in Men’s Field Hockey.

The Final of the Men’s Street Skateboarding starts at 09:00 and I believe it will be on CBC,

France vs Brazil in Men’s Basketball starts at 09:10, Men’s 60kg Judo Gold Medal Match begins at 09:18, India vs New Zealand in Men’s Field Hockey starts at 09:30.

At 10:30 there’s Spain vs France in Women’s Water Polo. USA vs New Zealand and Israel vs Paraguay at 11:00 in Men’s Soccer, as well as Germany vs Sweden in Men’s Handball. Argentina vs USA at 11:45 in Women’s Field Hockey.

On CBC at 12:30 there’s the Women’s 100m Butterfly Semifinal, the Men’s 400m Freestyle Final starts at 12:42. The Women’s 400m Freestyle starts at 12:52. The Men’s 100m Breaststroke Semifinals start at 13:12. The Final for the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay begins at 13:34. The Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final will be at 13:44. All these swimming events should be live on CBC.

In a Group of Death filled with talent Canada’s Men’s Basketball Team begins their tournament at 13:00 against Greece (I believe this will be on TSN4).

At 14:00 Heather Bansley and Sophie Bukovec begin their Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament against an American team.

Starting at 15:48 and live from Tahiti the Women’s Shortboard Surfing begins with Canadian Sanoa Dempfle-Olin competing.
