I drive for a living and I'm talking about rideshare drivers like Uber/Doordash. They're often new to the country and do it because it's an easy job to get. The lack of basic skills they demonstrate is scary. Canadian-born drivers aren't much better, but I think it comes down to differences in driving culture.
You're right that professional drivers should be better, and if they're full-time they usually are, but those doing contract work...
