She's also establishment in the sense that she's part of the previous administration (which is mostly bad because it's not a popular administration) but she's also not establishment in the sense that she feel like a safe and familiar choice to most people. (Partly that's just her being female and black, again.)

That said, the right VP could really help her.

She has far higher name recognition than any of the other likely candidates. This election will be decided by a small sliver of the electorate - mostly low-engagement swing voters. Name recognition matters.
