Nixon was sitting VP when he lost to Kennedy in 1960.
Humphrey was sitting VP when he lost to Nixon in 1968.
Johnson went from VP to President after Kennedy was assassinated, was re-elected in 1964, could have run again in 1968, but chose not to (he announced he wouldn't seek re-election on March 31, 1968).
Mondale ran against Reagan in 1984.
