I've always thought he'd be done the minute he lost a step, he really was a remarkable offensive player this year.
I have no problem calling him the best player in the game today, although I really hope he never wins a cup in Edmonton because as I said I really dislike Edmonton (like a lot a lot). It pains me to admit, even though he is Mr No Personality, but he ain't all that bad. I still have Lemieux as my #1, and then Gretzky, Howe and Orr, but McLotteryball is slowly and begrudingly entering the conversation. But he does suck at defence.

Dude can single handedly win a game himself, but not when he chooses to or else he'd have his cup right now.
He's fast with hands, top top, but that is it.
To me the equivalent is Ovechkin, and even he has a cup. Unless he wins consecutive cups for 4 years, and even then, I still put Crosby a mile ahead of him.
And if winning when it counts is an important factor (to me it is)I'd take a Lidström or Pronger or Roy/Brodeur 10 times out of 10 over him.
