Given how quickly we were able reduce our city water consumption should give people solace.
It also got me thinking that if we really wanted to make drastic changes we could require new houses to be built with two water outtake lines. One for black water (sewage, etc.) and one for grey water (shower, bathroom sinks, etc.). Grey water could go to a tank that could be used for toilets, gardens, lawns, etc. Grey water treatment could be big business. Not sure if this is really cost prohibitive or not but it could solve the demand side.
