You are right. I remember vividly, as a 19 year old, visiting my grandmother who was struggling with dementia. It was a Saturday afternoon. She was sharp, engaging and wonderful company. I couldn’t believe it, I was buzzing. I naively was convinced she was getting better - if not actually better.
That was very short lived. About four months later, she struggled to remember me when I returned home from college.
At the time, that hurt deeply, I was always, undeservedly, the apple of her eye. I have since come to appreciate that day as a gift.
Biden is not at the stage my grandmother was, but from the limited insights we get, I think I recognise the journey.
