There aren't that many RFAs who get offer sheets because if it is even a somewhat reasonable contract it will be matched and if it is unreasonable then it will handcuff the other team while still getting compensation. Jesperi Kotkaniemi is a prime example of a player who was expected to develop but really stagnated and is now a buyout candidate.
JK is equally a prime example of tit for tat pettiness after an offer sheet. We would possibly be facing numerous offer sheet candidates coming up our system at a time when deadmonton might have cap space and their own retool going on. And all they need to do is keep making offers and watching us blow up our cap space to match on bad deals, or risk giving them a prime asset for a 1st rounder that, lets face it, Edmonton couldn't turn into a valuable piece unless its top 3OA.

And lets face it, deadmonton is absolutely the kind of petty that would seek to get back at us as hard as they could. I mean Kassian "kept the code" once and picked up a ridiculous contract for doing so. If anyone would try and screw us just for the lolz, it's the no gooders.
