Sort of, but that's a bit simplistic. The assassination breakdown was from the last 100 years, so what happened in the 1800s is irrelevant. And they didn't switch sides so much, as there used to just be progressive and conservative wings in each party. The Civil Rights Act was a Democratic bill, but southern conservative Democrats opposed it (as did conservative Republicans) while the progressive wings and moderates in each party passed it.
And in terms of assassinations, I don't think anyone would call JFK, RFK, Harvey Milk, George Moscone, etc. "right wing". And of course, a lot of those aren't even necessarily political assassinations, so what party they're in isn't all that relevant.
