The guy is probably "hanging on" because he likes to play hockey. I'd likely do the same thing. At 40, you've got likely another 40 years to hang around, hit the beaches, travel, etc... I'd want to play as long as I could. F tarnishing my reputation and going out on a high note. I certainly wouldn't start a second career after either. Is he going to be a salesperson or an accountant? We're talking about a guy who made it to the big show and signed one of the biggest contracts in NHL history, not an AHL journeyman who has to worry about his finances after hockey.
