I have already lost a few plants and some are looking weary. Up until recently I wasn't allowed to water them unless I had a rain barrel, which wouldn't have covered them all.
So ya, when I see people get to fill their recreational pools so that they can survive in the heat (not sure what else they do the rest of the day when they aren't in it), and I'm watching my investment into my property wither... then sure thing, call me a ragey old man getting upset over nothing.
No one is complaining about watering their lawn really, it's the other things like using a hose to water plants or gardens or even underground sprinklers to do that. The city must think that underground sprinklers are only used for lawns, and don't know zones exist. Hell, in their water smart brochures they push to install underground sprinklers as it's more efficient.
Logic has escaped them. When I watered my plants today, it would have actually saved water using the hose directly on them instead of using a bucket. It's not saving anything by requiring that, just say no watering lawns, that's all they need to do. Worse yet is I travel for work and could be gone for over a week, which would likely result in a few more plants lost in this heat since I can't use anything automatic to do it.

You’re letting logic escape you, too.
If you would have used less water using the hose… just use the house and quit whining about it. The function of the rules is to maintain the spirit of the rules, not the other way around, and the spirit of the rules is to use less water. Using a bucket is inconvenient, so it should lead to less water or people not bothering, but if you’re going to bother and you’d use more water with the bucket, your brain should be telling you that the city would like you to just use the hose.
Your whole situation is fine, though. I get it, you spent a whack of money on new plants. It’s frustrating.
I’m more laughing at the dopes who have been whining about restrictions since day one like they’re some sort of conspiracy and finally get all defiant with “I’m using the HOSE!” like they’re some sort of freedom fighter lol.
