I do the same, although I mix this with my hot sauce of choice (Encona Extra Hot, not sold in Canada), a bit of worcestershire sauce and half a teaspoon of minced garlic. Goes very well.
BBQ sauce never goes on as a marinade for me when grilling, it's used only strictly as a dipping sauce.
