This is how I’m feeling about this trade as well. The Oilers having an unprecedented, historically good PK was probably the biggest reason for them getting to the finals. And if they want to get back there again next year, they’re going to need that PK to be of a similar efficacy. And while they’ve annoyingly added some good players this offseason, they’ve also lost a good number of players who made that PK hum.
It’s like they finally got hit in the face with the reality that defence wins championships and then went “welp, guess we need to bolster our offence some more!”
As for Savoie: annoying that they got a top 10 pick from a couple years ago for seemingly so little but on the other hand, highly unlikely he helps them this year enough to make them a stronger cup contender. If he makes the show, it’ll be in a top 6 role and they don’t need help there.
