I'm guessing this more goes back to the Jedi and what they are.

IF the writers go back to the source material, the Jedi are a flawed organization that believe that their version of the Force and its teaching is the only one.

In the ROTS Palpatine when he was talking to Anakin summed up the Jedi perfectly.

If you look back in Legends and even in Disney EU, the Jedi started the conflict with the Sith and pretty much created the Sith through their actions.

On top of that this is an organization that basically recruits the very young, and not only brain washes them, but limits them, and seeks to suppress, not only normal emotions, like Love, hate etc, but normal things like forging attachments, and if you think about that its sick.

The Sith don't really want really young apprentices, they want older ones that have been jaded and screwed over by the world, and are captured or limited, and ex Jedi tend to be the perfect candidates as they more then anyone else would want to break their chains and be free.

So if the theory 1 is that Venestra is a Jedi, Qimir as a former Jedi might have explored the Dark Side of the Force, and was severely punished and driven out of the Jedi Order.

If she's a hidden Sith as the theory goes, then perhaps Qimir tried to over throw his master and was punished for it, and now Qimir has two enemies, a Sith Lord and the Jedi Order.

Early accounts really show the Jedi Order being quite rosy with the younglings and padawans seeming happy and cheerful. This show is darker about the history with the Jedi going around stealing children from systems they deem less civilized than them. I don’t think they touched on this from the same angle before. At least to me it seems like they’re drawing from the history of the Catholic Church and Residential schools. Qi Mir, Osha, and Mae being the survivors of that.
