When you look at our NHL roster and this development camp roster it really highlights that the Flames really need to draft Centers with their top picks the next two seasons.
Goalie: Wolf, Vladar, Sergeev, Yegorov, Zarubin...they have Wolf who is a top 5 goalie prospect, and some lottery tickets here, which really is all you hope for with a goalie.
Defense: Parekh, Brzustewicz, Poirier, Morin, Mews, Grushnikov, Hurtig, Jurmo, Solovoyov, Kuznetsov...have some top end prospects here now with Parekh, and Bruzustewicz, and some decent depth in defensive prospects overall. Plus have Weegar and Andersson as legitimate top pairing guys at the NHL level still, and some potential upside with guys like Bahl, Miromanov, Bean, and Pachal who maybe have more to show.
Winger: Coronato, Zary, Pelletier, Honzek, Gridin, Basha are 1st round level talents, Pospisil, Stromgren, Suniev, Battaglia, Klapka, Misa provide some depth and still have high potential. The winger prospect group should compliment the long term NHL pieces like Huberdeau, Sharangovich and Coleman well.
And then Center....Lipinski might legitimately be our best Center prospect, Morton had a decent AHL start but it's pretty barren beyond that. (ignoring that Zary and Pospisil will get a look at C). And even at the NHL level our top centers are old with Backlund and Kadri.
I get why Conroy really wants to trade for an U-23 center...and really hope that with the 4 1st round picks we have over the next two seasons that we can get at least 2 (maybe 3) center prospects with those picks.
