The Flames have done well with Sharangovich and Kuzmenko, Laine seems like a similar type of situation. He may elevate his game in a zero pressure situation where the expectations are lower.

In Columbus he was under fire from day one. That and the organization is a complete gong show. Just think he thought Babcock would be his coach, and someone new was brought in right before the season began. Then he got injured and missed time for his mental health reasons. In Winnipeg he had the pressure of being a high draft pick and playoff expectations. Still he put up 44 goals one year, and (essentially) 30+ in his other three seasons with the Jets.

I think a proper organization like the Flames would be welcoming to him. After managing a similar situation with Kylington. It just makes too much sense. He might be similar to some of the players we already have, but positional balance isn't entirely relevant during a 'rebuilding' year. If Laine or Kuzmenko can pot 30 goals that'll net a substantial return. It's something Conroy should be on, and I'm certain Waddell wants to find a new partner for Laine.
