I see it more likely that Kylington may want to avoid the stress of doing this again next summer, asked his agent for the odds they could do better, was told the agent's view and decided to take that chance.

That’d be my guess. I think it makes perfect sense to want a year where you don’t have to think about anything but hockey.
Every year over the last five has been either a contract year, a year where he missed a ton of time on IR or both. That’s a lot of stress. I know people want to talk tough about how he should just be grateful for whatever the Flames offer, but if I’m the player, I’m absolutely looking around for a situation where I can have at least one entire season where I can put everything that isn’t the actual hockey part of hockey aside and just focus on playing the game and getting back to where I want to be.
