Can't believe this happened in Canada. Absolutely disgusting.
I always go to right wing LBC.co.uk for Canadian centric news.

Raise hands who knew of this incident when it was first reported or just found out about it today? The first report came June 28. This article and report is fairly different.

Only CTV local news broadcasted this incident. This made the rounds on a few subreddits like /r/halifax, I saw it at the time and thought it was a deplorable act.

Imagine to my surprise this making top page worldnews on reddit this morning, as LBC, DailyMail, Mirror and many other international media picked up on the story which got reposted. The reporting is also quite more descriptive and detailed, especially about who did the attacks.

Yet if you are following Canadian national news over the past 4 days since the local CTV news...there was nothing.

Nothing on Global
Nothing on National Post
Nothing on CBC.

I only found out about this story through Reddit first from r/halifax with the CTV article, second from r/worldnews. I'm sure r/worldnews is where Muta found it. When I saw the news on r/halifax I was shocked and disturbed by the attack.

It's now making the rounds in right wing fringe tanks such as r/canada_sub, yet not r/canada

Also notably absent in the CTV news broadcast was the omission of the men's identities, when the video clearly show who they are (yet their identities were protected). This is despite one of the victims clearly having a statement about the men's identities that was omitted from the CTV report.

Was this hate crime news omitted and underreported deliberately (for different reasoning)? Considering the sources that did report it (mainly tabloids or right leaning and far right sources) which mention ethnicity of the attackers, it appears this is a concerted censoring effort to cover up what is a clear hate crime solely due to who did the attack. Both political sides are deliberately choosing to silence / weaponize a hate crime out of convenience.

Left leaning sources are silencing this story because of who did the attack. Right leaning sources are clearly weaponizing it because of who did the attack.

As mentioned, that there was no charges at all is insane. A hate crime is a hate crime. Did the police not issue charges because they had a right anti-LBGTQ+ prejudice? Or they did not issue charges because the attackers were of an ethnicity that could cause backlash?

Selective media reporting and police action that negatively impacts a marginalized group absolutely should be a concern.
