I’ve volunteered at organizations like the mustard seed in the past and I am a person who very rarely gets emotional even in situations where I probably should be, but the first time I had kids the same ages as mine come up to get their plates while I was helping to serve meals was really really difficult for me.
It really changed my outlook on life. At the time I was going through what to me felt like a “rough” patch in my life but it opened my eyes to the fact that if you and your family are healthy and you’ve got enough money to keep a roof over your heads and food in your bellies most everything else in the world that we want is just fluff. Basically don’t stress over the little things.

My mother imbued in me the spirit of volunteerism. She volunteered for the '88 Olympics. She volunteered as a 'White Hat' at the Airport. She volunteered as a Tour Guide at City Hall and she has volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for over 30 years.
I've done my own fair bit of volunteering. I did 10 years as a youth soccer coach among many, many other things.
Including serving meals or making beds for Inn from the Cold and the Mustard Seed.
Despite my sarcasm and crass sense of humour, helping others is pretty much what I do.
