Could they have hit you with any pace, i.e., hurt you? If the ball carries to where you area that's no bueno, but in fairness, sometimes people just hit the shot of their lives and they feel absolutely terrible about it. I recently hit a 3 hybrid about 30 yards longer than my usual "well struck" distance and it rolled onto the green while the group ahead was putting out - I meant it to be a layup. Felt terrible.
For me, if it's the first time, and they yell fore, it's fine. If it's the first time and they don't yell fore, the response is to tell them, "YELL FORE! YOU ALMOST HIT ME!"
If it's the second time and they've yelled fore each time, tee their ball up in the fairway and leave it. They'll get the message. If it's the second time and they don't yell fore, you can either go give them a talking to or just take their ball and do as you will with it.
If it's the third time you have no choice. You have to kill them. It's unfortunate, but it's self defence at that point.
