Probably because he signed them, to long term deals. I bet if Conroy was in Treliving's spot he would never have signed Huberdeau for that long. Guy comes into the Flames franchise and has never had to earn anything and he's getting paid like that and doesn't really show up for the first couple seasons. Sure people are saying he's being a good teammate playing better defensively but for that contract he really hasn't brought it. Conroy only brought in Mantha for one year, and probably isn't thrilled at this point that he has to go and find somebody for Huberdeau. Huberdeau, doesn't really fit into the development plan over the next couple years, so it makes little sense to go out and find players for him. But he does help us reach the floor. Huberdeau's struggles, and lack of production are a big reason that the Flames have had to retool.
