It looks like he's doing things differently, he's talking about giving young guys more of an opportunity. He's talking about vets coming in to help the young guys learn how to win. He's signing shorter contracts with a purpose. He's actually got a timeline; Something we didn't see during the Treliving era, you never really saw a plan, sometimes guys were brought guys in to do something but took spots from younger guys, and sometimes those guys didn't do anything at all while getting paid and more ice time.
One of the biggest things that has held back the Flames over the last few years is a few entitled players. Players choosing when they wanted to come and play, while certain players appeared to take a whole season off. Conroy looks focused on building a better culture, he is not just putting pieces together like we saw with the Treliving era.
Treliving's big signing of Tanev is the kind of moves that sink a franchise. What happens if Tanev slows down over the next two or three years, I doubt he will just mail it in like some of Trelivings other signings. Shorter contracts means guys have to perform, and the contract won't sink the ship if things don't work out.
