At this stage Tanev is a poor mans Gio in his prime. He's a valuable piece to have as your #3 or 4 shut down D, but to sign to a big contract is a huge mistake. To me the good medium is a 3 year $6M/year contract. On the Leafs where they have to make big strides offensively and defensively, I'm not sure this moves the needle. He's what they should be going for but they still need to add a #1 or #2 dman to move Reilly as the #2. This will inevitably eat into valuable cap space. Treliving signing Reeves looks dumber by the day.
