He also seems to have a real knack for knowing when to come in deep. From the clips I saw, he's not cheating out of position; he's closing in to make the active area of the ice smaller. When he's below the circle, he knows nobody is getting in behind him.
Pardon an old chess fan, but the way he closes in on the attack reminds me of how Petrosian used his rooks. They're nowhere, doing nothing, seemingly harmless enough, and then BOOM, right in the king's grill and it's checkmate in two.
