Even without the carbon tax, it's over $70 for $9 of gas.

Any suggestions on what we can do about this (other than cancel everything and have no heat)? This doesn't seem reasonable.
Not much, you are paying for massive transmission and distribution infrastructure to enable you to get your $9 of gas, or $100 of gas, whichever one. It’s one of the few businesses in the world where you see this broken down for you. If you buy a $50,000 car how much raw materials is actually in that car? Couple grand maybe, heck maybe it’s even $10k. Why does the car cost that much. The factories, the transportation, the selling costs, etc, etc, and yes profit on top of that.
