Era officially is 1995 to 2003.A couple of years they were 2 and 3 in the divisions and failed.
The Flames were swept in the first round in 1996, and the ‘Young Guns’ slogan was adopted well after that. The team missed the playoffs every year from '96-97 to '02-03, and had no hope of being competitive against any of the seven or eight teams with effectively unlimited budgets. That is the era we're talking about. There's no ‘officially’ about it.
