Yes David, it makes sense. FOR YOU! But it does not make sense for them. At all.
And it isn't just that players' careers are short and they need to make as much as they can - that is absolutely true, and it's true for all players, including them.
But the other aspect of the argument is also flawed. Staples is arguing that they have a better chance of winning the cup if they stay - much like Spector's question where he asked Draisaitl about staying "where else would you have a better chance at the Cup?" (or something to that effect). Here's the thing: wherever they go, THAT team is then in a good - maybe the
best - position to win the cup! Any team, not just EDM. If Draisaitl signed with CAR, CAR instantly becomes a cup favourite.
Listening to the Oiler media basically beg them to stay is just so pathetic. It's a business, guys. And these guys are going to do whatever they think is best for them. Put your big boy pants on, and deal with it like adults.
