For all the talk of cycling infrastructure and culture in Europe, I gotta wonder how many dudes who rip around in spandex here have actually been to Europe and seen how cyclists behave there.
Yes, loads of people in European cities ride bikes. And some cities have lots of dedicated cycle lanes. But cyclists ride slowly on them. They’re usually wearing street clothes and making a 2 km trip to a cafe or grocers, so they’re not winding it out. Try ripping around the cycling lanes and pathways in Amsterdam or Copenhagen and see how people react.
You know where cyclists who want to get all kitted out and do 25k/h+ ride in Europe? On the road with the cars.

I'd look at how their urban design and driver behaviour differs from us before pointing the finger at differences in cyclist behaviour.
