When the Flames were forced to enter a rebuild in 2013 with Iggy moving on, and Kipper retiring the Flames had a bit of a trifecta in the first year after the tear down. Monahan was able to make the NHL at 18 so Flames fans got to cheer the immediate future piece. With Gaudreau they had a top prospect to follow as well while also being a bad team trending towards a top 4 pick in the next draft where there was a tier of 4 prospects at the top.
Next year I think it is unlikely the guy they draft at 9 plays next year so that person will be the Gaudreau role of prospect we are watching next year. Wolf perhaps is the rookie we watch next year but a much different situation vs 2013
