Marner sure didn’t do the Leafs any favours during his last contract negotiation, so why would the Leafs feel compelled to put him in the best spot to succeed? I suspect Craig Berube could make Marner feel pretty uncomfortable.

If that’s the precedent you want to set with your stars that’s your prerogative but trying to punish a player in the last year of their deal would be pretty stupid as a coaching staff and organization.
