'Ruined' is a very different life concept then 'made miserable for a year-ish'. Sure the kids should probably have a wallet sized copy of the ''we're sorry, you guys are innocent'' letter from the state on them at all times, but they've been totally vindicated publicly and have a nice Duke education to help out their future. On the whole, I think they'll end up in the 'fine' rather than 'ruined' category.
Now, that's not to say that I think it was a positive experience, I just think ruined it a bit of a reach. Perhaps this is being a semantics argument?
