If I was old enough to have gone through the 89 Cup run I'd probably feel differently. But I was 10 during the 04 run and became a die hard fan since, nothing will top going to Game 6 and watching the Flames eliminate the Sharks with my dad.
Yet, I don't see a path forward as a Flames fan seeing a cup anytime soon. Even if the rebuild goes well over the next few years, winning the cup takes so many things going right it takes as much luck as it does roster management. So to that end, if the Oilers win a cup simply for sucking so much that they had to change draft lottery rules, a cup based on a lottery win followed up by 9 years of incompetent GMing, it feels sickening and cosmically unfair lol. Obviously I take the game too seriously but it's a wake up call that would have me tuning out of the sport entirely going forward.
Ya its whiny but there's also no other die hard Flames board I'd rather vent to haha.
