He's not the guy who carries you to a championship but if you build the team properly he can help you out. LA isn't that team but he helps them be more competitive while they look for their top goalie.
Talbot was UFA too, so who know if he had interest in returning to LA. Now they have Kuemper and Rittich.
Plus, they got rid of Dubois and that terrible contract. They're saving just over $3M in Cap hit from this trade.

It's amazing how many people have no ability to see a buy low scenario. Kuemper played on a bad Capitals team and had a bad year. In the last 6 years, 3 over .920 save percent and 5 over .900. 1 bad year and the guy is terrible now. Would not be shocked if he has a very good season in LA next year. .910+ save percent.
Dubois could be a buy low too, but if he isn't that contract is going to be awful for the Caps for a long time and with his attitude issues, he could play well for a while and then it could fall apart again later.
