Sounds like he gets a deal he thinks is fair and gives other parties a shot at it to try and up the return. The Canucks were mad he kept pushing on conditions. If the Canucks and Stars didn't collapse then the returns would have be even better.

That's not really how the TDL went down. He reportedly had a deal done well before the trade deadline and then ownership squashed it, creating bad blood between the organizations that lasted through the trade deadline.
You might be right that the 10th would have never been traded for Markstrom but I just don't like these deals getting done so far before the deadline day as it sets other teams up for low balling (like the Tanev deal).
I do agree with comments that this is a risk and maybe the other goalies that were becoming available added to the pressure, but the Devils VERY much wanted Markstrom. Would they have actually gone after someone else?
