I agree that short term makes sense. One year doesn't accomplish anything though, I think it needs to be 2, and 3 would be fine also.
Hard to give him a raise when he played 33 out of 162 games on his last contract. At the same time, he played well in those games so I don't think you look to reduce his pay.
I think it should be 2 years, in the $2.5 to $2.75M per year area.
If he performs well over those 2 years, THEN he deserves to get paid.
