With that said, Markstrom is too old. He's an average starter that has some good years. If Bobrobsky wins the cup, he'll probably put himself in the conversation with names like Hasek, Roy, Dryden, Brodeur etc (HM: Tim Thomas). We're talking about a guy with two vezinas, along with a year where he swept a 62 win team, along with a year where he beat a 65 win team. The guy is a living legend and he hasn't even beat the best team of Connor McDavid's lifetime just yet.

You're thinking about it too logically though which NHL GMs don't always do.
Bobrovsky had a higher top end than Markstrom, but at the same time they are similar in that they were somewhat inconsistent throughout their career.
Bob had two Vezina trophies but he also mixed in seasons of poor goaltending in there, to the point where at one point his contract was looked at preventing Florida from contending and being one of the worst in the NHL. I don't think this win puts him into the discussion with Hasek / Roy / Brodeur ... but probably more in like the Fleury / Lundqvist / Luongo / Rask tier.
Markstrom is a bit like Bobrovsky lite...he never won the Vezina but was a finalist twice IIRC. Was a bit inconsistent in his career, and probably would have a third Vezina finalist this year if he didn't get hurt / Flames didn't sell.
In the last 4 years in Calgary Markstrom is +7 GSAA, and Bobrovsky in the last 5 years in Florida is +6 GSAA.
I think a team looks at that and goes "If Florida can make the finals with a 34 and 35 year old Bob, why can't we make the finals with a 34 and 35 year old Markstrom" Especially with Bob making $10M and Markstrom making $3-$6M.
