It is the law of supply and demand. There are a bunch of teams that see themselves as good teams, who have issues in net. There just simply aren't that many good goalies available.

Markstrom
Ullmark
Gibson???
Binnington??

Saros is not moving apparently. Who else?

I think for any team that is sick of losing, then Markstrom is the clear favourite out of the bunch. Binnington isn't that great, even if he did win a cup. Ullmark underperformed in this recent playoffs, so there's a little tarnish there. Gibson has a worse deal, and hasn't been a really good starter for a while now IIRC.

How many teams DON'T have to worry about goaltending? It suddenly seems like a smaller number in the last couple of years.

We have seen a number of years on the Flames where they suffered from poor goaltending in the playoffs. Elliott? Rittich/Talbot? Whatever you accomplish in the regular season gets wiped out and forgotten about when you have a leaky goalie in the playoffs. It becomes another valuable year that you were a contender and some other teams were not yet. Teams don't stay contenders forever. Lose a couple of years trying to find a cheaper alternative, and suddenly before you know it you have to make other tough decisions on your team about who to give big raises to, which players you need to trade away to cut costs, and suddenly you start chasing other teams who have caught up and then passed you that off-season. Every wasted year counts.

Ottawa has to do something now. New Jersey has to do something now. Caroline SHOULD do something now. LA has to do something now. Colorado should look to upgrade as this + 2nd line centre are obvious weaknesses. Unless the Islanders decide to throw in the towel and sell their players, including Sorokin, then I would say that Markstrom is the guy you prioritize getting.

I think 2 runs makes up for a 10th overall pick, with retention on Markstrom. You aren't getting anyone who is going to be any good without giving that asset up. I am going to demand that if I am Anaheim, or St. Louis or whomever, even if I have to send something back. Or the Devils can roll the dice on subpar goaltending again, and Fitzgerald can find a new job at some point towards the end of next season.
