Bennett asked for a trade and was available for months...nobody offered more. Its not like the Flames were the only team that had doubts.

Hockey is weird, just over a year ago Bob was the Panthers 10M backup going into the playoffs and now he is their best player. Pens beat the Hawks in game 82 they are likely doing whatever it takes to dump Bob's contract last summer.
