The Ottawa rumours are intriguing. They were in on Tanev and made it pretty obvious they wanted him at the trade deadline and that they'd target him hard in the offseason. Markstrom loves playing with Tanev (as would most goalies), and Tanev enjoys playing in front of Markstrom and both of them are better with each other around (they've played 10 years of their careers together).
Since Ottawa can't tamper, it'll be a little difficult to tell Markstrom that they'll get Tanev no matter what, but the fit is there, and if they do trade for Markstrom, it wouldn't be that difficult to convince Tanev to come there, and I'm sure Markstrom would make a call or two to Tanev -- if they haven't already talked about it. It would be a pretty decent place to spend the last 3-5 years of their careers on a team that could take the next step and become contenders, especially with a solid shut down defender and high end goalie.
Ottawa becomes a pretty interesting team with those two and the rest of the core they have, so the value is there for a decent deal for the Flames.
